S.Y.S. started after reading an article in, WONDERFUL WEST VIRGINIA, about tree fungus, better known as "conks". For many years the Indians etched and painted on the underneath side of this tree fungus, as many people do today. However when we gathered a few of these in 1992, we noticed that they were various sizes and shapes and the underneath side wasn't always smooth, but they reminded us of many different things.

Sharon [S], Yvonne [Y], and Sandra [S], are [ SYSters ], who were born and reared in Friendly, WV. As children who grew up on a farm, we love and appreciate the beauty and usefulness of the natural resources that surround us. We know that, like people, all things have somewhat different personalities and looks. Knowing and observing these things, we wanted to create "our own thing", unlike anything others had previously done.

In 1993, we dragged these "conks" out and took another look at them and decided that one of them resembled Scarlet O' Hara's skirt, in the great classic, "GONE WITH THE WIND". Although "Scarlet" was lacking an upper torso, arms and a head, we constructed these, also with the help of Mother Nature. When we finished "Scarlet", she didn't look too bad. From this point we started making other things from angels to turkeys, Indians, and eagles. Some of the items have a rough look to them. We can only do so much with items we find in the woods.

There are only two sisters working on artisan items now and have added other things to our fungi creations. We changed our company name to "Fungi Art Creations".

Enter the computer!! I am a senior citizen so all this computer stuff wasn't something I was eager to learn, but I wanted to do photography and make greeting cards and post cards. If your are a senior citizen, you know what it was like to type on an old manual typewriter. Well, this "keyboard" is amazing, but some things seem to have moved since the old typewriter days. With my daughters help and patience as my teacher, I managed to learn enough to use this new machine, so now we sell postcards, greeting cards, and framed pictures.

Sharon and I had never seen quilling but saw some in a store and decided to try it. We make quilled greeting cards, framed pictures, ornaments, jewelry and other items. We do a few sewn items also. We may have to change the name of our business again.

We both worked for several years and now are enjoying retirement. We are so busy, we don't know how we ever had time to hold down a job in a factory!
